Where is The Svartisen Glacier located?

Svartisen is Norway's second-largest glacier with an area of 369 square kilometers. It is located in the county of Nordland in Northern Norway, south of the coastal city of Bodø.

How do I get there?

It is approximately a 2-hour drive from Bodø to Holandsvika  where you board a boat for a 10-minute ride across the fjord. The views are simply breathtaking and will leave you in awe of the natural beauty of Norway.

When is the best time to visit Svartisen?

What to do at Svartisen?

Adventures abound all year round for example: hiking the glacier, hiking in the mountains, deep sea fishing, swimming, skiing, horseback riding, fjord adventures, visiting the world’s most powerful tidal current: Saltstraumen 

These and many more await the intrepid traveler.

Is it safe to go hiking in the Svartisen Glacier area?

All hiking on or near the glacier, without the necessary equipment and expertise, is dangerous. Keep a good distance from the glacier. Anyone who has no knowledge of hiking on or near glaciers is recommended to follow the marked routes. Leaving the trail can be dangerous.

With an experienced guide, you can explore this natural wonder and immerse yourself in the captivating beauty of nature. Book your guided trek and enjoy an unforgettable adventure.

Do you have to be in good shape to go on the glacier

The guided glacier treks are suitable for everyone over 12 and in reasonably good shape. Please note that you do not need any prior experience.

Crampons, ice axes, and safety harnesses will be provided to ensure your safety throughout the journey. Experience breathtaking crevasses and natural ice formations on the trek, and during summer, witness the midnight sun on Svartisen.

When can I see the Northern Light?

November through February is the absolute peak season for Northern Lights viewing because the nights are the longest. Still, a visit anytime between September and March should give you a good chance to see them, with March offering the best chance of clear skies.

What about the midnight sun?

Northern Norway offers 76 days of midnight sun between May and July. The further north you go, the more nights of midnight sun you get. During summer, you can experience up to 24 hours of sunlight above the Arctic Circle.

Is it possible to invest in the project?

It is not, but we will open for that as we think that Svart should be owned by likeminded to secure the vision and enjoy the project’s benefits.

Who will operate the hotel?

A  Six Senses, a Part of IHG Hotel, will operate the hotel.

How far is it from the airport?

From Bodø airport by car will take about 1 hour and 40 min where most of the road is at a national tourist road at the seaside. A car trip is a journey itself, and it’s pretty enjoyable and a part of the experience. By boat from Bodø, it takes 2- 3 hours, depending on the type of vessel.

What is the closest airport, and how do I get there?

A Bodø is the closest, and it is connected to Oslo via direct flights that take about 1 hour and thirty minutes.

Can everyone take part in the events?

Since this is much out in the nature normal health, it is needed, but always look at the event description or ask us if you have special requirements. The events are based on small groups, and stakeholders are given priority.

Can we arrive by sea?

Yes, that is possible, and you can combine it with coastal express Hurtigruten which stops in Meløy, the municipality that hosts the project.

Is it possible to land by airplane at the site?

Bodø is the closest airport, and it’s a service run from there that offers seaplanes that can land nearby or fly over the glacier.

Can I book a room in advance?

When the hotel is operational, the option to book a room in advance will be available.

Is it possible to visit the site?

Yes, and we have started to arrange events to explore the site and the area, and we will also be able to organize events on demand. You will also have the opportunity to visit all by your selves, and we will guide you to make it as easy as possible drop us a request—every year, over 25K visit Svartisen

How do I book a room?

We currently have no rooms available for booking. However, we are planning to offer approximately 25 nearby cabins, managed and operated by our hotel.
